Lia Rezende Domingues

Journalist and socio-environmental communicator

About me

I'm a Brazilian writer, journalist, and socio-environmental communicator with 10 years of experience in community-based and ecological initiatives.

I've also been a nomad-traveler since 2017, when I received my university degree. Since then, I've been living and learning with communities and traditional territories in Minas Gerais (2018), Bahia (2019–2023), and Mato Grosso (2023–26), as well as in other parts of Latin America and the world.

Currently, I'm the Head of Communications at the Xingu Seed Network – Brazil's leading reference in community-based native seed collection for ecological restoration – and I'm also a community fellow at MedLab CU Boulder and an ambassador for the International Network for Seed-based Restoration (INSR-SER).

Curious about the Earth, the people, and the many expressions of Life, I'm fluent in English, French, and Spanish.

Sensitive and responsible, I've been writing since I was a child – and as far back as I can remember, I've always kept personal diaries. I offer autobiographical writing workshops, have published two books, and have a strong desire to publish more.

Backlands:
Canudos
& surroundings

Research, writing, fieldwork, interviews, mapping, graphic design of publications, and above all, many meaningful relationships built on care

I first entered the backlands of Canudos in 2019 – and I have never truly left since. I lived with several families in the region and, to this day, years later, I maintain close contact with most of them.

Canudos is a symbol of Brazil and of the struggle of the oppressed: the 1897 massacre continues to repeat itself in various parts of the world, revealing much about the history of our country and of humanity.
